Software heeft zijn weg gevonden in allerlei hedendaagse apparaten en wordt daarbij steeds vaker de onderscheidende factor. De levensduur van software, en daarmee de time to market voor nieuwe ontwikkelingen, wordt steeds korter en hoe beter een fabrikant kan inspringen op nieuwe ontwikkelingen, hoe groter zijn concurrentievoordeel.

Apparaten worden daarbij steeds slimmer, zijn aangesloten op het netwerk en kunnen zich aanpassen aan hun omgeving. Het belang van het kunnen hergebruiken van software componenten, van server tot desktop tot embedded omgevingen om hiermee sneller en kwalitatief beter software te kunnen ontwikkelen neem toe.

Binnen luminis hebben we veel ervaring met de service gebaseerde componenten technologie OSGi, die binnen Java inmiddels de de facto standaard geworden is. Niet alleen hebben we daar de afgelopen jaren tientallen applicaties mee ontwikkeld op de meest uiteenlopende apparaten, we hebben ook in de praktijk aangetoond dat hergebruik werkt en voordelen oplevert.

Veel bedrijven roepen tegenwoordig dat ze iets met open source doen, maar wij zijn al sinds onze oprichting actief betrokken bij verschillende OSGi projecten zoals Apache Felix en Apache ACE. Die kennis en ervaring brengen we mee bij de ontwikkeling van projecten en producten voor onze klanten, waarbij we niet te beroerd zijn risico te nemen en de daad bij het woord te voegen.

• The OSGi Community Event in Berlin 20082008-11-06 08:46:22

  Two beautiful days in sunny Berlin, with business presentations on the first day and technical tracks on the second. Martijn and Hans did a presentation and succesful demo of GX's WebManager 9, an application that is commercially available and nicely shows the benefits of using OSGi in an enterprise content management environment. We also demo'ed the L-iQ Provisioning Server to the OSGi world for the first time and got a lot of positive feedback!
